Billing

Splitjar has three plans. The free tier is a real plan — it carries a generous quota and never asks for a card. The paid plans are unlimited; they differ in scope.

The plans

Free — six receipts per jar

  • 6 approved receipts per jar
  • Kept for 90 days
  • Friends invited freely
  • Email forwarding works on day one
  • One jar at a time

This is what you get without entering a card. Six receipts is “a long weekend” — enough to know whether the product fits how you actually travel.

Jar — one-off, one trip

  • Unlimited receipts in this jar
  • Kept forever
  • XLSX and PDF export
  • Up to 6 travellers (additional travellers metered)
  • One-off charge, no auto-renewal

Buy when a specific trip is going to need more than the trial. The Jar entitlement is group-scoped — it pays for that one jar, not your account globally.

Year — every trip

  • Unlimited receipts in every jar
  • Daily digest of what changed
  • XLSX and PDF export, kept forever
  • Up to 6 travellers per jar (additional travellers metered)
  • Annual subscription, billed in your local currency

Roughly: three trips a year and Year is cheaper than buying Jar for each. The Year entitlement is user-scoped — every jar you create or own gets the upgrade.

How the trial gate counts

The trial limit is on approved receipts — the ones that successfully extracted and joined the ledger. Receipts that fail extraction don’t count against your trial; the cost-attempt cap is separate (and significantly higher) so a few extraction failures don’t blow up the trial early.

Currencies and tax

Stripe prices are configured per currency:

CurrencyTax behaviour
AUDInclusive (GST is part of the displayed price)
USD, GBP, EURExclusive of any local tax

Currency at checkout is suggested by your IP geo (request.cf.country), not by your browser language. You’re shown your local currency unless you explicitly switch.

How the entitlement view resolves

At request time, the worker resolves a single Entitlements view from your active subscriptions and any admin overrides. The order:

  1. Active Year subscription or admin override → Year entitlement applies, full stop.
  2. Active Jar subscription on this group → Jar entitlement on this group; user-scoped fields (jar count, digest) stay at trial.
  3. Otherwise → trial.

Active means status='active' and (period_end IS NULL or period_end > now). Cancelled, past-due, or incomplete subscriptions read as inactive. The override path exists so support can grant a free Year to specific accounts without billing.

Large groups

Groups of 20+ — tour operators, ski clubs, school trips — aren’t priced from the public tiers. Email hello@splitjar.app and we’ll work out the right shape.
